Botswana Citizenship Act 1998 Cap.01:01 as amended to 2004

The Citizenship Act No.8 of 1998 repealed and replaced the Citizenship Act 1982.  This version includes amendments made in 2002 (allowing for exemption from language requirement for naturalisation) and 2004 (deleting s.13(1)(b) on naturalisation, allowing dual citizenship for children, and amending deprivation provisions).

The Act was further amended in 2024, to provide for dual citizenship for adults, a presumption of citizenship for foundlings, and the right to register as a citizen for some stateless persons.
