Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Major General (Rtd) Pius Mokgware, revealed the figures while addressing the Ntlo ya Dikgosi (House of Chiefs). He said 2,947 Zimbabweans had acquired Botswana citizenship during the period.

South Africans were the second-largest group, with 1,327 citizenship grants, followed by Indians (320), Zambians (209) and Angolans (142).

Other recipients included citizens of Malawi (103), Lesotho (101), the Democratic Republic of Congo (66), Namibia (64), Kenya (62), Pakistan (53) and Britain (50).

Mokgware provided the figures in response to a question from Kgosi Khama IV of Ga-Mmangwato, who had asked how many foreign nationals had been granted Botswana citizenship between 2018 and the present.
