Botswana moves closer to ratifying key human rights covenants

The Government of Botswana has reaffirmed its commitment to ratifying key international covenants focused on human rights, including the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) and the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness.
Speaking on Friday at the closing ceremony of a national consultation workshop held in Gaborone, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services, Moffat Lubinda, confirmed that the country is advancing efforts to ratify the two international agreements.

“Botswana will move ahead in honouring its undertaking. The country holds dearly to heart the obligations promulgated by UN member states and the resulting benefits of ratifying the economic, social, and cultural human rights covenants and accession to the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness,” he said.
